Love and Repentance

“Therefore tongues are for a sign, not to those who believe but to unbelievers; but prophesying is not for unbelievers but for those who believe. Therefore if the whole church comes together in one place, and all speak with tongues, and there come in those who are uninformed or unbelievers, will they not say that you are out of your mind? But if all prophesy, and an unbeliever or an uninformed person comes in, he is convinced by all, he is convicted by all. And thus the secrets of his heart are revealed; and so, falling down on his face, he will worship God and report that God is truly among you.” 1 Corinthians 14:22-25 NKJV

I went to a church that did not want the ‘prayer warrior women’ to pray or worship in tongues or in the spirit in the main sanctuary where the guest are – they did not what to scare them off. Interestingly enough the spirit took those who were in the spirit away from that church. Here we see that using the spirit in church draws people to repentance and salvation!

Dear Heavenly Father – As always, please open eye to see and our ears to hear what you are saying! Lord – open our understanding that we may know you and give us wisdom. Please do not let us miss out on what you want and need from us today. Lord, I pray that your word prepares us and not scares us! We forbid the works and influences of fear over your word. And please keep us and bless us and shine your face upon us and pour out grace over us and give us peace! Thank you! – In Jesus name we pray, Amen

Today’s reading is from the book of First Corinthians, chapters 12 through 14 (embedded below the image below for your convenience). I am glad that chapter 13 is sandwiched in and now today we will take in in context – so many times we have separated it from context and elevated LOVE disproportionately! Oh yeah, I said what I said. But let me explain. As some of you know, when I speak on the attributes of God (and God IS love) I often pull out 1 Corinthians 13 and replace the word love with the word God. Instant WOW and powerful understanding of the Father follows!!! It is always anointed and always mind changing – why? Because of truth and unity.  You see, when you take 1 Corinthians in context the context is that Paul is speaking to people who started putting ‘preacher personalities’ on pedestals and started focusing on man and love.  And Paul is saying refocus on GOD (Jesus and the Holy Spirit) and Truth.  There is NO LOVE without the truth that LOVE IS A WHO.  Real LOVE is a Who and a decision and multifaceted having many attributes. LOVE is alive and growing (without changing – because LOVE IS GOD and GOD IS LOVE).

If I say I love you – in the spirit it is like saying I God you. NO! not make them a god or to idolize – these are the corruptions the enemy has tried to substitute for real love!
I God you – would be I share in God with you. Suddenly that whole unequally yoked thing makes sense, yes? How can I who live under the wing of God share with someone who lives with God in their sights but not anywhere close to God? We cannot share – we are not in the same place.  I can witness to them of a closer place – I can read them Psalm 91. I can quote to them when Paul said we need to walk in the Spirit. But until they are there, where I am – I cannot commune with them.

Ah, back to the table (from our last few days conversations) – prepared and waiting. Who is able to come to this table to commune? They will be equally yoked and LOVE (share God) in a deep and meaningful way. In the spirit I can sit at this table with all of you who hear the words of the Lord and draw into this (if I too heed to it). We are all fragile and weak in corruption, but God gives more grace to those who have a heart after his.

So as chapter 12 speaks of unity and diversity in the body of Christ – we must temper chapter 13’s description of Love with truth. Stop separating it and applying it to a corrupted understanding of LOVE that man has accepted from the enemy. Chapter 13 is not describing love – but it is describing God. And since God is love – if God is in the unity Love is on the unity. If God is in the diversity then LOVE is in the diversity.

I hope you are following what I am saying. It is a subtle shift. Eyes off of love as we understand it and eyes on God – He is LOVE and He is all these things. Eyes off of each other and eyes on God. Paul writes this in a way where he is asking us to examine ourselves… Paul asks rhetorical questions designed for you to take them to God in prayer (even if you think you know the answer) and meditate on the Love of God.

Because EVERY DAY, EVERY TIME – it ALWAYS boils down to self-examination to “REPENT for the kingdom of Heaven is at hand – GET HUMBLE, and draw in closer to God.” I say it every day – I pray and try to do it every day. I pray you understand and also participate every day.  God requires an uncompromised relationship for the mission ahead. We are created for such a time as this and all it takes is to enjoy a personal relationship with the one true living God.

Yesterday was the Nations Day of Repentance in the USA. Some preachers are calling for a week long, some a year long, and others have other time frames – but the call to repentance has been made, and on a more national level (than just me pumping it out on a blog that is followed by MOSTLY foreign countries). No matter what time period we are long overdue for repentance as individuals and as a nation.  Hearing Roe vs Wade in the Supreme Court seems to have triggered it – the case in the USA that permitted abortions on a national level.
This seems a good time to explain individual repentance vs corporate, national, and/or family repentance.
I have never had an abortion – therefore I do not need to repent on an individual level.  I was also not an adult with any form of influence when that court case was originally heard and decided upon – so again, I have no individual repentance. In my family, there is a long line of women who have had abortions – the sins of the fathers are passed down (remember our studies on blessings and curses under the law?) So, I stand in the gap for my ancestors, completely outside of time and therefore in the Spirit, and ask God to forgive my family and break any curse so that it is forgiven and doesn’t go to me or my child, or any future generation from me. That is a family repentance.
When it comes to corporate and national – AGAIN, I must examine myself. Did I do enough to try and stop it? Did I write to my congress man? Did I support organizations which worked tirelessly to try to end the death of the innocent? Did I help educate people of the options?  Was there more I could have done? I can luckily say I was involved and did do some things – I can unfortunately say I did not do enough. Now, I am responsible for some individual repentance.
And what about my church? Had it done enough? I can stand in the gab and repent – it is a corporate repentance.  It works best if others in the church also repent together. And like a family repentance you can ask for forgiveness of the past errors.
I do not know who, but there are others out there who haven’t done anything nationally. There are others who let abortions be legal and even vote for laws for it. They may be my neighbors, friends, and it is most definitely my State (I live in NY the unborn baby murder capital of the world).  Who stands in the gap for this state? Who stands in the gap for those who are no longer with us and cannot repent? Who stands in the gap for those who are ignorant, or blind and deaf to the truth?! This is a National repentance – not personally responsible, but I am able to stand in the gap and intercede for the Lord’s mercy and grace.

Maybe I should have explained it sooner – I say repent daily and daily I say repent. But maybe we need a lesson with a broader, yet still Biblical, understanding of what repentance means.  “I mean, I repented yesterday and haven’t left my house since, what do I have to repent of?!” I have heard this often. But as I attempt to approach God for my private time with Him – He always shows me things, I am not perfect all the time. Minds wander into trouble all on their own, if nothing else. In other words there is always something to repent of. If not, you have stopped growing and going deeper. Like it is acceptable for a baby to burp in public, it is not acceptable for an adult – and as an adult you should apologize for burping…. As you grow in Christ and closer in your relationship, there are things you could do before but they are no longer permitted for you. Therefore there is ALWAYS something to repent from. That doesn’t mean we should give up trying – it means we are growing!

Do you already have a relationship with a powerful God who cares about your every need because He loves you? Did you know my God can communicate with you and protect you – He has a plan for you to prosper if you just submit to His will and let His plan play out in your life!!! God wants a relationship with you and has already made a plan for your life. He loves you so much He sent His son to this world, to die as a sacrifice for your sins and rise from death with victory over sin and the ability to have a personal relationship with you.
“If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved.” Romans 10:9-10 NIV
Here is a prayer for you to pray:
Jesus, I believe you are the way, the truth, the life, and the only way to the Father. I believe you are the son of God, you came to Earth and lived. That you died on the cross as a sacrifice for my sins, and rose again so that I may be saved from my sins and be able to get to know you. I declare: Jesus, you are Lord!
Therefore, I confess that I am a sinner and I ask that you forgive me of my sins and come into my life. Help me to turn away from my sins and transform me into what you have lovingly created me to be. Help me through a real personal relationship grow and accept your will for my life – that I may live in your blessings. Please walk with me, and talk with me – I accept a relationship with you and with our Father God, through you. In the name of Jesus I pray ~ Amen

MEMORY WORK: This month we have another powerful verse – this one will give you peace that passes understanding as the world around us spins out of control we know our sovereign God still has a plan! We may not be able to comprehend, but hang in there His way is better!!

Isaiah 55:8

NIV – “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the LORD.”
NLT – “My thoughts are nothing like your thoughts,” says the LORD. “And my ways are far beyond anything you could imagine.”
ESV – “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the LORD.”
KJV – “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD.”
NKJV – “For My thoughts are not your thoughts, Nor are your ways My ways,” says the LORD.”
NAS – “For My thoughts are not your thoughts, Nor are your ways My ways,” declares the LORD.”
AMP – “For My thoughts are not your thoughts, Nor are your ways My ways,” declares the LORD.”

Thank you for reading.
May the God of peace keep you and bless you. May you stay focused on Christ and covered in grace.

BIBLE READING: 1 Corinthians 12-14 NKJV

Spiritual Gifts: Unity in Diversity

12 Now concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I do not want you to be ignorant: You know that[a] you were Gentiles, carried away to these dumb[b] idols, however you were led. Therefore I make known to you that no one speaking by the Spirit of God calls Jesus [c]accursed, and no one can say that Jesus is Lord except by the Holy Spirit.

There are [d]diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit. There are differences of ministries, but the same Lord. And there are diversities of activities, but it is the same God who works [e]all in all. But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to each one for the profit of all: for to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, to another the word of knowledge through the same Spirit, to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healings by [f]the same Spirit, 10 to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another discerning of spirits, to another different kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues. 11 But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually as He wills.

Unity and Diversity in One Body

12 For as the body is one and has many members, but all the members of that one body, being many, are one body, so also is Christ. 13 For by one Spirit we were all baptized into one body—whether Jews or Greeks, whether slaves or free—and have all been made to drink [g]into one Spirit. 14 For in fact the body is not one member but many.

15 If the foot should say, “Because I am not a hand, I am not of the body,” is it therefore not of the body? 16 And if the ear should say, “Because I am not an eye, I am not of the body,” is it therefore not of the body? 17 If the whole body were an eye, where would be the hearing? If the whole were hearing, where would be the smelling? 18 But now God has set the members, each one of them, in the body just as He pleased. 19 And if they were all one member, where would the body be?

20 But now indeed there are many members, yet one body. 21 And the eye cannot say to the hand, “I have no need of you”; nor again the head to the feet, “I have no need of you.” 22 No, much rather, those members of the body which seem to be weaker are necessary. 23 And those members of the body which we think to be less honorable, on these we bestow greater honor; and our unpresentable parts have greater modesty, 24 but our presentable parts have no need. But God composed the body, having given greater honor to that part which lacks it, 25 that there should be no [h]schism in the body, but that the members should have the same care for one another. 26 And if one member suffers, all the members suffer with it; or if one member is honored, all the members rejoice with it.

27 Now you are the body of Christ, and members individually. 28 And God has appointed these in the church: first apostles, second prophets, third teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, administrations, varieties of tongues. 29 Are all apostles? Are all prophets? Are all teachers? Are all workers of miracles? 30 Do all have gifts of healings? Do all speak with tongues? Do all interpret? 31 But earnestly desire the [i]best gifts. And yet I show you a more excellent way.

The Greatest Gift

13 Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I have become sounding brass or a clanging cymbal. And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body [j]to be burned, but have not love, it profits me nothing.

Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not [k]puffed up; does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, [l]thinks no evil; does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.

Love never fails. But whether there are prophecies, they will fail; whether there are tongues, they will cease; whether there is knowledge, it will vanish away. For we know in part and we prophesy in part. 10 But when that which is [m]perfect has come, then that which is in part will be done away.

11 When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child; but when I became a man, I put away childish things. 12 For now we see in a mirror, dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part, but then I shall know just as I also am known.

13 And now abide faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is love.

Prophecy and Tongues

14 Pursue love, and desire spiritual gifts, but especially that you may prophesy. For he who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men but to God, for no one understands him; however, in the spirit he speaks mysteries. But he who prophesies speaks edification and exhortation and comfort to men. He who speaks in a tongue edifies himself, but he who prophesies edifies the church. I wish you all spoke with tongues, but even more that you prophesied; [n]for he who prophesies is greater than he who speaks with tongues, unless indeed he interprets, that the church may receive edification.

Tongues Must Be Interpreted

But now, brethren, if I come to you speaking with tongues, what shall I profit you unless I speak to you either by revelation, by knowledge, by prophesying, or by teaching? Even things without life, whether flute or harp, when they make a sound, unless they make a distinction in the sounds, how will it be known what is piped or played? For if the trumpet makes an uncertain sound, who will prepare for battle? So likewise you, unless you utter by the tongue words easy to understand, how will it be known what is spoken? For you will be speaking into the air. 10 There are, it may be, so many kinds of languages in the world, and none of them is without [o]significance. 11 Therefore, if I do not know the meaning of the language, I shall be a [p]foreigner to him who speaks, and he who speaks will be a foreigner to me. 12 Even so you, since you are [q]zealous for spiritual gifts, let it be for the [r]edification of the church that you seek to excel.

13 Therefore let him who speaks in a tongue pray that he may interpret. 14 For if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays, but my understanding is unfruitful. 15 What is the conclusion then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will also pray with the understanding. I will sing with the spirit, and I will also sing with the understanding. 16 Otherwise, if you bless with the spirit, how will he who occupies the place of the uninformed say “Amen” at your giving of thanks, since he does not understand what you say? 17 For you indeed give thanks well, but the other is not edified.

18 I thank my God I speak with tongues more than you all; 19 yet in the church I would rather speak five words with my understanding, that I may teach others also, than ten thousand words in a tongue.

Tongues a Sign to Unbelievers

20 Brethren, do not be children in understanding; however, in malice be babes, but in understanding be mature.

21 In the law it is written:

“With men of other tongues and other lips
I will speak to this people;
And yet, for all that, they will not hear Me,”

says the Lord.

22 Therefore tongues are for a sign, not to those who believe but to unbelievers; but prophesying is not for unbelievers but for those who believe. 23 Therefore if the whole church comes together in one place, and all speak with tongues, and there come in those who are uninformed or unbelievers, will they not say that you are [s]out of your mind? 24 But if all prophesy, and an unbeliever or an uninformed person comes in, he is convinced by all, he is convicted by all. 25 [t]And thus the secrets of his heart are revealed; and so, falling down on his face, he will worship God and report that God is truly among you.

Order in Church Meetings

26 How is it then, brethren? Whenever you come together, each of you has a psalm, has a teaching, has a tongue, has a revelation, has an interpretation. Let all things be done for [u]edification. 27 If anyone speaks in a tongue, let there be two or at the most three, each in turn, and let one interpret. 28 But if there is no interpreter, let him keep silent in church, and let him speak to himself and to God. 29 Let two or three prophets speak, and let the others judge. 30 But if anything is revealed to another who sits by, let the first keep silent. 31 For you can all prophesy one by one, that all may learn and all may be encouraged. 32 And the spirits of the prophets are subject to the prophets. 33 For God is not the author of [v]confusion but of peace, as in all the churches of the saints.

34 Let [w]your women keep silent in the churches, for they are not permitted to speak; but they are to be submissive, as the law also says. 35 And if they want to learn something, let them ask their own husbands at home; for it is shameful for women to speak in church.

36 Or did the word of God come originally from you? Or was it you only that it reached? 37 If anyone thinks himself to be a prophet or spiritual, let him acknowledge that the things which I write to you are the commandments of the Lord. 38 But [x]if anyone is ignorant, let him be ignorant.

39 Therefore, brethren, desire earnestly to prophesy, and do not forbid to speak with tongues. 40 Let all things be done decently and in order.

  1. “He always shows me things, I am not perfect all the time. Minds wander into trouble all on their own, if nothing else.” How true!

Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O LORD, my strength, and my redeemer.

    1. I like that verse better then the one I quote when my mind wanders off – I reprimand it with Philippians 4:8 (and in KJV, because that is how I memorized it!) lol
“Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.”
