Guarded against False Teachers – 11-17-22

These are wells without water, clouds carried by a tempest, for whom is reserved the blackness of darkness forever.” 2 Peter 2:17 NKJV

RELATIONSHIP:

Do you already have a relationship with a powerful God who cares about your every need because He loves you? Did you know my God can communicate with you and protect you – He has a plan for you to prosper if you just submit to His will and let His plan play out in your life!!! God wants a relationship with you and has already made a plan for your life. He loves you so much He sent His son to this world, to die as a sacrifice for your sins and rise from death with victory over sin and the ability to have a personal relationship with you.

Do you want to know truth? Be able to discern lies? Know how to figure it all out in these confusing times and have peace? The Bible says Jesus is the truth. I have experienced it and it has changed my life. I was once a hot mess of sin, promiscuity, drug and alcohol use and so much more. But I was lost and when I could not find my way, or find a truth, I numbed it with bad choses. When I found Jesus, and truth – I found peace and deliverance from those things.

If you want a relationship with God without truth you will get the counterfeit, hypocritical Christianity that has kept some of you away for too long. You need truth and relationship. You need to be honest with yourself and God (including honest repentance) and God will reveal truth to you. It becomes the two way, interaction that your relationship with God is built on. This is why Jesus is called the truth, because he is our only way to the Father.

“If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved.” Romans 10:9-10 NIV
Here is a prayer for you to pray:
Jesus, I believe you are the way, the truth, the life, and the only way to the Father. I believe you are the son of God, you came to Earth and lived. That you died on the cross as a sacrifice for my sins, and rose again so that I may be saved from my sins and be able to get to know you. I declare: Jesus, you are Lord!
Therefore, I confess that I am a sinner and I ask that you forgive me of my sins and come into my life. Help me to turn away from my sins and transform me into what you have lovingly created me to be. Help me through a real personal relationship grow and accept your will for my life – that I may live in your blessings. Please walk with me, and talk with me – I accept a relationship with you and with our Father God, through you. In the name of Jesus I pray ~ Amen

BIBLE READING:

Dear Heavenly Father – Please give us the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of who you are, who Jesus is, and who the Holy Spirit is. Open the eyes of our understanding, please, so we may know the hope of our calling and the vast sovereignty and power of the grace of the cross. Please do not let us miss out on what you want and need from us today. Lord, I pray that your word prepares us and not scares us! We forbid the works and influences of fear over your word and our sound mind. And please keep us and bless us and shine your face upon us and pour out grace over us and give us peace! And we pray for the peace of Jerusalem! Thank you! – In Jesus name we pray, Amen

Today’s reading is the Second Book of Peter, chapter 2 (embedded below for your convenience in the NKJV).

Destructive Doctrines

But there were also false prophets among the people, even as there will be false teachers among you, who will secretly bring in destructive heresies, even denying the Lord who bought them, and bring on themselves swift destruction. And many will follow their destructive ways, because of whom the way of truth will be blasphemed. By covetousness they will exploit you with deceptive words; for a long time their judgment has not been idle, and their destruction [a]does not slumber.

Doom of False Teachers

For if God did not spare the angels who sinned, but cast them down to [b]hell and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved for judgment; and did not spare the ancient world, but saved Noah, one of eight people, a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood on the world of the ungodly; and turning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah into ashes, condemned them to destruction, making them an example to those who afterward would live ungodly; and delivered righteous Lot, who was oppressed by the filthy conduct of the wicked (for that righteous man, dwelling among them, tormented his righteous soul from day to day by seeing and hearing their lawless deeds)— then the Lord knows how to deliver the godly out of temptations and to reserve the unjust under punishment for the day of judgment, 10 and especially those who walk according to the flesh in the lust of uncleanness and despise authority. They are presumptuous, self-willed. They are not afraid to speak evil of [c]dignitaries, 11 whereas angels, who are greater in power and might, do not bring a reviling accusation against them before the Lord.

Depravity of False Teachers

12 But these, like natural brute beasts made to be caught and destroyed, speak evil of the things they do not understand, and will utterly perish in their own corruption, 13 and will receive the wages of unrighteousness, as those who count it pleasure to [d]carouse in the daytime. They are spots and blemishes, [e]carousing in their own deceptions while they feast with you, 14 having eyes full of [f]adultery and that cannot cease from sin, enticing unstable souls. They have a heart trained in covetous practices, and are accursed children. 15 They have forsaken the right way and gone astray, following the way of Balaam the son of Beor, who loved the wages of unrighteousness; 16 but he was rebuked for his iniquity: a dumb donkey speaking with a man’s voice restrained the madness of the prophet.

17 These are wells without water, [g]clouds carried by a tempest, for whom is reserved the blackness of darkness [h]forever.

Deceptions of False Teachers

18 For when they speak great swelling words of emptiness, they allure through the lusts of the flesh, through lewdness, the ones who [i]have actually escaped from those who live in error. 19 While they promise them liberty, they themselves are slaves of [j]corruption; for by whom a person is overcome, by him also he is brought into [k]bondage. 20 For if, after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, they are again entangled in them and overcome, the latter end is worse for them than the beginning. 21 For it would have been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than having known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered to them. 22 But it has happened to them according to the true proverb: “A dog returns to his own vomit,” and, “a sow, having washed, to her wallowing in the mire.”

MEMORY VERSE CHALLENGE:

Colossians 4:2 –

“Continue earnestly in prayer, being vigilant in it with thanksgiving”

STUDY/DEVOTIONAL:

Where did Peter leave off yesterday?
Oh yes – Prophets cannot give you a prophecy on a whim. They cannot inbox you and ask for money in exchange for a prayer or a word. They cannot act like a genie in a bottle. They historically, in the Old Testament, said things we do not want to hear – not things we do want to hear. Prophets are not toys. We cannot go on social media and click around looking for a word and when we find a prophet speaking assume that word is for you because you sought it out. We cannot confuse prophecy with our longing to get a word – bypassing the truest word of God – the Bible. Prophecy can fail and so can the prophets – the WORD never fails. Doctrines get corrupted even – but if you know firsthand via experience what The Word says, you will not fall for a corrupted doctrine, false prophet or false teacher.

1But there were also false prophets among the people, even as there will be false teachers among you, who will secretly bring in destructive heresies, even denying the Lord who bought them, and bring on themselves swift destruction.”

I once went to a church led by a false teacher who was only interested in money and prestige. Friends of mine attended there and they have strong discernment and asked if I wanted to go to church with them. I said yes and began attending. NOTE: I have strong discernment and deep Bible knowledge and they have strong discernment. I attended there for almost 2 years. The whole time everything read correctly. Occasionally something I disagreed with in scripture – but never life or death. Some excellent and good catch phrases that were not muddied came from there. But something was not right. We all agreed and could not put our finger on it; every time we thought we did it would move.  The point is – IT IS HARD to recognize a fine-tuned religious heresy machine.  Internet heresy hunters are acting out the devil’s role in accusing the brethren – when the real threat goes unnoticed even to some of the most discerning.
Verse one make it sound like it will be obvious enough and they self-destruct – so it will not be too much of a problem. But the truth that verse one speaks without our timeline assumptions is that God will judge them, by giving them enough rope to hang themselves – so to speak. This takes time. So much so, many times they never learn the correlation between the sin and the judgment. Meanwhile…

And many will follow their destructive ways, because of whom the way of truth will be blasphemed. By covetousness they will exploit you with deceptive words; for a long time their judgment has not been idle, and their destruction does not slumber.

I still have not seen God judge that false prophet I sat under. I quickly out grew him and his church spiritually and knew God told me to move on – but I wanted to stay with my friends so I stayed too long. God finally sent me and sent them to join me shortly thereafter. They got involved in leadership and it took them longer to leave due to commitments.

But the reason I bring it up is because the enemy has been deceiving men and women for years! He knows how to lie to us better than we understand lies. He knows discernment and also knows how to disguise himself as an angel of light. Never be so proud as to say you will not fall for it – or fall for it again.

For if God did not spare the angels who sinned, but cast them down to hell and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved for judgment;”

Now peter gives us a dramatic, dynamic list of God’s righteous judgments against blatant sin. – But Peter is not just speaking of blatant sinning preachers. I think NO ONE who reads this regularly would submit themselves under a transvestite, drag queen preacher. That seem pretty obvious and the Methodist church should see the wrath of God coming at them for such crimes against His word. (But they will be surprised, because God’s people perish for lack of knowing what the word says!)
Peter is also speaking about the pastor corrupted by pride he will not surrender – who slowly corrupts the word of God coming from his lips because it is filtered through the lens of sin. Peter also speaks of the one who disobeyed when the true prophets were sent to help correct – and the anointing of the Lord has been lifted off them and the Lord says do not intercede while I deal with them.

and did not spare the ancient world, but saved Noah, one of eight people, a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood on the world of the ungodly; and turning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah into ashes, condemned them to destruction, making them an example to those who afterward would live ungodly; and delivered righteous Lot, who was oppressed by the filthy conduct of the wicked (for that righteous man, dwelling among them, tormented his righteous soul from day to day by seeing and hearing their lawless deeds)—“

Time after time – the Lord shakes, sifts, rescues and vindicates the righteous and the hardened, prideful, false teachers fall.

then the Lord knows how to deliver the godly out of temptations and to reserve the unjust under punishment for the day of judgment, 10 and especially those who walk according to the flesh in the lust of uncleanness and despise authority. …”

We are in the time of shaking and the judgment has come to the house of the Lord – soon the whole world will be sifted and shaken. It is not anything new. God does this over and over to get the hearts of the people to turn towards Him. He is faithful – He is unfailing. So when I say it, it is not prophecy but the pattern that we see throughout the book without exception and we will NOT be the first exception.

“… They are presumptuous, self-willed. They are not afraid to speak evil of dignitaries, 11 whereas angels, who are greater in power and might, do not bring a reviling accusation against them before the Lord.

The word “dignitaries” literally means (when pulled from Greek to current English) glorious ones – or someone who is lifted up by God. God’s appointed and anointed. Please note that no one is elevated without God – he make and breaks kings and politicians.
Now Peter is speaking against the false preachers and prophets – but he includes people who walk according to flesh, are lustful, are unclean, despise authority, are presumptuous, self-willed – and speak against the politicians, kings, and other leadership God put above us. After election season in many countries including the USA – we all have sinned and fallen short of the Glory of God! Alright maybe not all of us – but I know I was close a few time, like speaking truth NOT in love.  But God is still sovereign and still in control. And even though some of the counting is still NOT done (I assume a bunch of toddlers are the ones counting on their fingers?) God can still effect the outcomes supernaturally – He is the God of the Impossible. But it will not happen in favor of a hard necked people who speak against God’s works and people He is using (when even the angels do not dare). God will raise up leaders to oppress and get us back into a position of humility.
So – Keyboard warriors who angrily post against the opposing party and share violent, mean and ungodly memes against them, you are not only making republicans look bad. You are also making GOD and Christians look bad. And if you do not care about the way you look – care about the fact that God says it’s a sin… and you are blatantly sinning. Repent.

12 But these, like natural brute beasts made to be caught and destroyed, speak evil of the things they do not understand, and will utterly perish in their own corruption,”

Once upon a time, I read this chapter like I hear most sermons about this chapter – like there is an obvious line between those who are REALLY bad and us who must be really good. Then I hear in my head – praise the Lord that I am not like that and that the evil get their punishments! But I, yes, I shared some of those political memes that spoke against someone God put in authority above me. But I am not a brute beast! I cry out as I lower my spirit to repent. But I was told and knew – but for a moment lacked understanding … I forgot God raises up kings and leaders according to what we need to fix our heart conditions. Honestly – a slip up and mistake. I recall and repent. Because if I do not nip it in the bud, it will grow into corruption and destroy me.

I feel like you all are standing there with your jaw dropped staring at me. Of course I sin, we all do – I also repent. Which is key! So now, look at yourself and what you might need repenting of.

13 and will receive the wages of unrighteousness, as those who count it pleasure to carouse in the daytime. They are spots and blemishes, carousing in their own deceptions while they feast with you, 14 having eyes full of adultery and that cannot cease from sin, enticing unstable souls. They have a heart trained in covetous practices, and are accursed children. 15 They have forsaken the right way and gone astray, following the way of Balaam the son of Beor, who loved the wages of unrighteousness; 16 but he was rebuked for his iniquity: a dumb donkey speaking with a man’s voice restrained the madness of the prophet.”

When the judgment comes it rains on the just and unjust – So make sure you are not deceived into thinking you are ok. I know it feels like I harp on this a lot lately – but grace and mercy sometimes come well before we need them in the form of a warning. We apply mercy with a contrite spirit, humble before the Lord – honest with ourselves about the fact that we could be wrong. Sometimes we see all that is wrong with the Church as a general population and forget to NOT compare ourselves to others. We each need to do better.

17 These are wells without water, clouds carried by a tempest, for whom is reserved the blackness of darkness forever.”

And as Peter’s description gets darker – I want to pray for mercy for them as well. I want to cry out to them all: “Repent! For the kingdom of heaven is at hand!”

18 For when they speak great swelling words of emptiness, they allure through the lusts of the flesh, through lewdness, the ones who have actually escaped from those who live in error. 19 While they promise them liberty, they themselves are slaves of corruption; for by whom a person is overcome, by him also he is brought into bondage.

Woe.

This is not speaking of all who get saved backslide – Peter is still speaking of the prophets and teachers, and include everyone with a sphere of influence placing them in a position of authority over other – who speak, and act falsely. Like you and me if we err – since we practice soul winning and discipline. But after much self-reflection and prayerful repentance, I am quite sure my heart is after God and God alone. I do not want fame – I leave my name off of this. I do not want any glory. I just want to love my Jesus and be loved back and teach others about the truth of who He is through His word.  I just want Jesus.

Where are you at? You good? Are you avoiding being a false teacher and avoiding being under a false teacher in this difficult time?

I also wanted to remind and inform all of you, that instead of writing a book on fasting (since it is the topic I get asked the most about) I have created a Facebook group that is designed to be interactive and give you all the Bible verses on fasting, all the types of fast, and how to fast. In the group are specialist to help us along the way, like the creator of The Fasting Protocol (fasting for health and weight loss; which is part of fasting and important to know about – He can also speak to fasting in a healthy manner). The group is new and other experts are invited, I am hopeful they will join. So let’s join the group and see what we will learn about prayer and fasting.
