Peter’s End Time Thoughts – 11-18-22

“You therefore, beloved, since you know this beforehand, beware lest you also fall from your own steadfastness, being led away with the error of the wicked;” 2 Peter 3:17 NKJV

RELATIONSHIP:

Do you already have a relationship with a powerful God who cares about your every need because He loves you? Did you know my God can communicate with you and protect you – He has a plan for you to prosper if you just submit to His will and let His plan play out in your life!!! God wants a relationship with you and has already made a plan for your life. He loves you so much He sent His son to this world, to die as a sacrifice for your sins and rise from death with victory over sin and the ability to have a personal relationship with you.

Do you want to know truth? Be able to discern lies? Know how to figure it all out in these confusing times and have peace? The Bible says Jesus is the truth. I have experienced it and it has changed my life. I was once a hot mess of sin, promiscuity, drug and alcohol use and so much more. But I was lost and when I could not find my way, or find a truth, I numbed it with bad choses. When I found Jesus, and truth – I found peace and deliverance from those things.

If you want a relationship with God without truth you will get the counterfeit, hypocritical Christianity that has kept some of you away for too long. You need truth and relationship. You need to be honest with yourself and God (including honest repentance) and God will reveal truth to you. It becomes the two way, interaction that your relationship with God is built on. This is why Jesus is called the truth, because he is our only way to the Father.

“If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved.” Romans 10:9-10 NIV
Here is a prayer for you to pray:
Jesus, I believe you are the way, the truth, the life, and the only way to the Father. I believe you are the son of God, you came to Earth and lived. That you died on the cross as a sacrifice for my sins, and rose again so that I may be saved from my sins and be able to get to know you. I declare: Jesus, you are Lord!
Therefore, I confess that I am a sinner and I ask that you forgive me of my sins and come into my life. Help me to turn away from my sins and transform me into what you have lovingly created me to be. Help me through a real personal relationship grow and accept your will for my life – that I may live in your blessings. Please walk with me, and talk with me – I accept a relationship with you and with our Father God, through you. In the name of Jesus I pray ~ Amen

BIBLE READING:

Dear Heavenly Father – Please give us the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of who you are, who Jesus is, and who the Holy Spirit is. Open the eyes of our understanding, please, so we may know the hope of our calling and the vast sovereignty and power of the grace of the cross. Please do not let us miss out on what you want and need from us today. Lord, I pray that your word prepares us and not scares us! We forbid the works and influences of fear over your word and our sound mind. And please keep us and bless us and shine your face upon us and pour out grace over us and give us peace! And we pray for the peace of Jerusalem! Thank you! – In Jesus name we pray, Amen

Today’s reading is the Second Book of Peter, chapter 3 (embedded below for your convenience in the NKJV).

God’s Promise Is Not Slack

Beloved, I now write to you this second epistle (in both of which I stir up your pure minds by way of reminder), that you may be mindful of the words which were spoken before by the holy prophets, and of the commandment of [a]us, the apostles of the Lord and Savior, knowing this first: that scoffers will come in the last days, walking according to their own lusts, and saying, “Where is the promise of His coming? For since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of creation.” For this they willfully forget: that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of water and in the water, by which the world that then existed perished, being flooded with water. But the heavens and the earth which are now preserved by the same word, are reserved for fire until the day of judgment and [b]perdition of ungodly men.

But, beloved, do not forget this one thing, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward [c]us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.

The Day of the Lord

10 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night, in which the heavens will pass away with a great noise, and the elements will melt with fervent heat; both the earth and the works that are in it will be [d]burned up. 11 Therefore, since all these things will be dissolved, what manner of persons ought you to be in holy conduct and godliness, 12 looking for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which the heavens will be dissolved, being on fire, and the elements will melt with fervent heat? 13 Nevertheless we, according to His promise, look for new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells.

Be Steadfast

14 Therefore, beloved, looking forward to these things, be diligent to be found by Him in peace, without spot and blameless; 15 and consider that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation—as also our beloved brother Paul, according to the wisdom given to him, has written to you, 16 as also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things, in which are some things hard to understand, which untaught and unstable people twist to their own destruction, as they do also the rest of the Scriptures.

17 You therefore, beloved, since you know this beforehand, beware lest you also fall from your own steadfastness, being led away with the error of the wicked; 18 but grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
To Him be the glory both now and forever. Amen.

MEMORY VERSE CHALLENGE:

Colossians 4:2 –

“Continue earnestly in prayer, being vigilant in it with thanksgiving”

STUDY/DEVOTIONAL:

Today we finish the book of 2nd Peter. Peter ends with just as much power as he started – the same way he lived his life. He was zealous for God, by going all in for Christ and dying for him. The hung Peter to a cross and even as he is about to die – he demands to be hung upside down, as he felt he was not worthy to be killed in the same manner as Jesus. Humility before God is not a wimpy thing. He was bold enough to make demands as he was about to die.

1 Beloved, I now write to you this second epistle (in both of which I stir up your pure minds by way of reminder), that you may be mindful of the words which were spoken before by the holy prophets, and of the commandment of us, the apostles of the Lord and Savior,”

Peter wraps up the book speaking of these last days – the days we are in. And how very late it is. The generation that is rising up will see the temple rebuilt and probably the rapture. Maybe I will also live long enough to see it. No one knows when, but we can see the signs of the times.

So, Peter wrote to remind us.

knowing this first: that scoffers will come in the last days, walking according to their own lusts, and saying, “Where is the promise of His coming? For since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of creation.”

We are SO VERY LATE in the hour, that even the Christians have fallen asleep! Yes – I have seen this verse as a pattern: those who say ‘People have been saying it was the end forever’ and are lax about it, are living according to their own lusts. The Bible says so, and I have seen many a leader in the church say this to me and then their lusts are exposed and I think – this passage is a warning! A warning not to become slack.

Jesus said to occupy until He returns – so yes, things continue. But even during world wars, things continued, people married and had babies, and life went on. But the continuance of daily living is not a reason to become lax – be watchmen, be the wise brides with oil in your lamps waiting for the groom.

For this they willfully forget: that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of water and in the water, by which the world that then existed perished, being flooded with water. But the heavens and the earth which are now preserved by the same word, are reserved for fire until the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men.”

God spoke this all into existence and God destroyed it all by flood in the days of Noah. Then by the word – Gods same spoken word – the earth is saved from destruction until the Day of Judgment.
Of course most Christians read the whole Bible and think, the rapture comes first, then the tribulation, then the Day of Judgement. But we do not really know – the rapture could happen mid-tribulation. Or it could be at the second coming of Christ, also called Judgement Day. I have seen many well thought out arguments for each. Personally I hope for pre-trib – but plan for mid-trib – and believe it is not for us to know for certain. But I do believe I could see the rapture in my life time. I could see the rebuilding of the temple. I could see the tribulation, if it hasn’t already begun. And I could see The Anti-christ.

But, beloved, do not forget this one thing, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.”

We reset time on the year of Jesus’s birth – so this is approximately 2022 years after His birth. If a day is a thousand years, then we are in the third day. I used to subscribe to the idea – and you have heard me say: it is the third day.
The third day is important because Jesus said, tear down my temple and I will rebuild it on the third day.
Jesus died in the year 33 and rose 3 earth days later and everyone then assumed the three days and temple had to do with Him. But He was never before associated with the symbol of a temple. 3 days to God from the year 33 begins in 2033. Hang on, I am going somewhere.
The temple was torn down in the year 70. The Israelis are not only prepared to rebuild it, but they have already build sections of it and the art for it and the drapery and tapestries for it. So many parts are made, they could assemble it quickly as soon as they get permission. The cows for sacrifice have already arrived in Israel.  3 days to God from the year 70 begins in the year 2070.

The third day in the idea of thousands is also in the thousand year reign passages. Where the rapture and the Jesus come for a literal Armageddon at the end of 2000 years and the third day is His thousand year reign. Therefore we truly do not understand the day or the hour – but we know the signs of the times and know it is soon! Much sooner than it was for the last generation, and the one before that.

The Lord made promises and He is not a man that He could lie.

The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.”

You see, God has to wait so that ALL can have the opportunity to come to heaven. This verse is specific about the end time promises – but since God is ALWAYS the same, it also applies to the promises we are waiting for the breakthrough of in our lives.

10 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night, in which the heavens will pass away with a great noise, and the elements will melt with fervent heat; both the earth and the works that are in it will be burned up.”

Although the rapture is supposed to come when we do not expect – the great Day of the Lord will also come as a thief in the night. Like an atomic bomb, by the sounds of it. The battle of Armageddon become a spiritual event and on earth we are instantly destroyed by Jesus’s return.

11 Therefore, since all these things will be dissolved, what manner of persons ought you to be in holy conduct and godliness,”

Things and flesh dissolved in a flash – then we stand before the judgement seat of the Lord – first to be judge if our names are written in the Lamb’s Book of Life, then to be judge for all of our actions, thoughts and every word.  I suppose Peter is right, we should focus on our actions, thoughts and words – and more importantly winning souls!

12 looking for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which the heavens will be dissolved, being on fire, and the elements will melt with fervent heat?”

We should be looking forward to the Day of the Lord and the Rapture. We can even hasten it – by being fervent in winning souls, making disciples, and prayerfully interceding for others. Things we are told to do anyway. Although, we can also slow his return down by not being fervent in winning souls, making disciples, and prayerfully interceding for others. I mean – he gave himself a 1000 year window and then expanded it to any point in time.

13 Nevertheless we, according to His promise, look for new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells.”

I’m going to jump slightly off topic for a moment. I am all for being a good steward of the planet. I enjoy many sustainable practices and minimize my garbage. I compost when I can (it is hard in winter). But the New Green Deal and some of the absurd initiatives are backwards. They push electric cars which are NOT sustainable and the making of their batteries are destroying vital areas of the planet. They say kill off the animals – but we are the animals leaving the largest carbon foot print and cows and other sources of meat contribute more to our ecosystem than they probably realize. We have seen devastating effects on our planet when a species goes extinct. We should be good stewards as we wait for the Lord’s return. But God has told us in MANY prophesies, not just here in Peter, that the planet will be destroyed. You see, it is corrupted by death, just like everything else. When God eliminates death – everything will have to be made new.

14 Therefore, beloved, looking forward to these things, be diligent to be found by Him in peace, without spot and blameless;”

So God is returning for a church without spot or wrinkle! If you have spots of wrinkles, you better do better and do better quickly. If you are just calling it in – step up and into action. God wants to restore your first love to Him – your relationship with Him.

Paul was recently killed when Peter was writing his two letter, to encourage Paul’s followers. Peter now endorses Paul – and verse 16 has to be one of my favorite “foot in mouth” Peter ever has! Makes me laugh every time!

15 and consider that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation—as also our beloved brother Paul, according to the wisdom given to him, has written to you, 16 as also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things, in which are some things hard to understand, which untaught and unstable people twist to their own destruction, as they do also the rest of the Scriptures.

As Peter tries to endorse Paul – he says: it’s hard to understand. Basically – this guy is good, whatever he said. Oh it make me laugh. Can we take your word if you don’t know what Paul was saying?

Paul’s writings, translated into the King James Version are at a 4th grade reading level. The problem Peter had was that he wasn’t well educated, although that lack of education was still impressive. Peter went to regular school and Hebrew school and knew the law and Torah. Peter spoke fluent Hebrew. Peter also learned common Greek and even learned to read and write in it. Paul knew high Greek. He could speak in common and high Greek and wrote in high Greek using Greek literary tools and methods, like rhetorical questions to provoke thinking, and arguments presented in the formulas of logic, and metaphors (which were often mixed and caused some confusion – but were the style of the day).  So for someone who could only read, write and speak common Greek and it was his second language – Paul was difficult to understand.
And for all of us who have spent hours staring at our lexicons and commentaries, wondering exactly what Paul meant – we actually must agree with Peter: some is hard to understand.

But then Peter himself says Paul’s writings are Scripture!! They should be taught and not twisted and Peter also referenced Paul’s various writings throughout both of these letters.

17 You therefore, beloved, since you know this beforehand, beware lest you also fall from your own steadfastness, being led away with the error of the wicked; 18 but grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
To Him be the glory both now and forever. Amen.”

We are being shaken so that we are tested in our steadfastness. Be immoveable – so the world cannot move you, but God can. Yes, remain soft and open to His direction.

It is time to put away our phones and distractions and be present in people’s lives. Even when wandering the stores, surrounded by strangers. That is where we will find the harvest that is ready – but if we are distracted and on our phones we will miss the opportunity to minister to people.

I also wanted to remind and inform all of you, that instead of writing a book on fasting (since it is the topic I get asked the most about) I have created a Facebook group that is designed to be interactive and give you all the Bible verses on fasting, all the types of fast, and how to fast. In the group are specialist to help us along the way, like the creator of The Fasting Protocol (fasting for health and weight loss; which is part of fasting and important to know about – He can also speak to fasting in a healthy manner). The group is new and other experts are invited, I am hopeful they will join. So let’s join the group and see what we will learn about prayer and fasting. Thank you for reading in 2022 – a Year of Wisdom and Salvation
May the God of peace keep you and bless you. May you stay focused on Christ and covered in grace. Walk in wisdom.
